ICE DANCE ORNAMENTAL GRASS / GROUND COVER spreads slowly by rhizomes, so is an excellent groundcover. It grows in an arching shape low to the ground 8 to 12” high and wide. It has deep green centers and creamy white margins, brightening up shady spots. Ice Dance will grow in a wide variety of conditions from sun to heavy shade, on slopes or steep banks. It will tolerate clay or sandy soils, also seasonally wet sites. It is vigorous enough to compete with weeds. Ice Dance keeps its beauty over winter in Portland’s mild climate. It is also pest resistant and unpalatable to deer and other herbivores. USDA Zones 5 – 9

NATIVE KINNIKINNICK is a carefree groundcover that prevents soil erosion and will naturalize rougher areas of your property. It effectively covers any neglected bare areas of your yard - sun, or shade. Kinnikinnick tolerates poor sparse soil, forming a dense mat of evergreen leaves whose stems slowly root along the ground. It drapes beautifully over a rock wall to soften the look, or cascades down and stabilizes a steep slope. In fall it has small scarlet berries, attracting birdlife through the winter. Foliage turns a beautiful bronzy-red during cold winters. It is an easy-care plant, drought tolerant when established, and deer and rabbit resistant. It provides nectar for hummingbirds and butterflies & suits a native garden habitat. Evergreen and extremely cold hardy to -50˚ F. USDA Zones 2 – 8

PERIWINKLE “Vinca Minor”

Periwinkle is one of the most popular and widely used ground covers. Foliage stays low, mounding to about 6 inches tall. Trailing stems root at the nodes as they go along the ground, so in time Periwinkle will cover bare areas and prevent weeds and erosion. It tolerates most all conditions including full shade but performs equally well in sun. Periwinkle is carefree, drought and deer resistant. USDA Zones 4 – 8

BLUE OAT ORNAMENTAL GRASS has a silver-blue tinge to its spiky green blades. It is clump-forming and especially attractive in rows or groupings, often used by landscape designers. Evergreen in our climate, it is extremely cold hardy. Blue Oat Grass is striking against a backdrop of bushes such as Barberry because of the contrasting colors and textures. It flourishes on slopes and is ideal for erosion control. Once established it is drought tolerant. Blue Oat Grass matures at about 18 to 24 inches tall. A versatile ornamental grass, it is pest and disease free, left alone by deer, rabbits, and other browsers. USDA Zones 4 – 10 Hardy to -15˚

EVERGOLD ORNAMENTAL GRASS has narrow arching variegated leaves, deep green on the borders with creamy yellow down the center. This award-winning, striking exotic short sedge typically grows in a mounded clump averaging about 8 inches tall and wide. Foliage is evergreen or semi-evergreen (depending on location). It prospers in dappled sun or partly shaded sites but grows well in sun also. Evergold works beautifully in mass planting, for erosion control or to brighten up a desolate part of your yard. Evergold is pest and deer resistant. USDA Zones 4 – 9

BLACK MONDO ORNAMENTAL GRASS grows about 10 inches high and wide. It spreads very slowly by underground stems. Mondo Grass looks stunning contrasted against light green plants, in pebbles, bark chips, or as a border. It keeps its dark color year-round. Black Mondo is deer resistant. Zones 5 - 10
