Clumping Non-invasive Bamboo
Mature Height: 12 to 14 ft. (Less if planted in a container)
Cane Diameter: ½ to ¾ inch USDA Zones 6 – 9 (Hardy to -5˚F)
Fargesia Scabrida is one of the best clumping bamboos for hedges because it is incredibly fast growing and has an upright habit. The leaves are dark green with a graceful, airy arrangement. The canes begin as green shoots, then these green canes gradually age to a deep burgundy red. As the old canes mix with the new, the variation in coloration gives a striking contrast. Scabrida is deer resistant, hardy, and makes a superb privacy screen.

Fargesia Robusta is a good choice for a clumping bamboo that creates an excellent screen, being taller and more upright than many other clumping types. Robusta is so named because of its robust, yet non-invasive growth habit. Robusta withstands cold winters and windy conditions and is deer resistant. It is evergreen and versatile. It has dark green leaves and light green culms; the new green shoots gradually turn into golden canes, creating an eye-catching combination of colors and texture.

Wolong Clumping Bamboo is an ideal selection, providing privacy and screening while keeping future growth in a contained area.

Maximum Height: 7 - 8 ft. Cane Diameter: ½ inch
Hardiness: -15°F USDA zones 5 - 9
Green Panda Clumping Bamboo (Fargesia Rufa) is non-invasive - perfect for hiding an unsightly fence or view. In the Portland area it averages about 8 feet high with a ½” cane having an attractive rusty reddish sheath.
If you desire a non-running, clumping single specimen or a bamboo hedge/screen that gets 7 to 10 feet tall, with a beautiful evergreen leaf texture, choose Green Panda Clumping Bamboo (Rufa). It is one of the most hardy and versatile clumping bamboos with new culms that leaf out very early in summer. Rufa sends up many new shoots tightly around the base each season, broadening into an attractive fountain-like form.
Green Panda Bamboo is shade tolerant. It grows well in sun if the site has some afternoon shade during the summer. A row of them makes an excellent non-invasive barrier or screen.

Semiarundinaria Fastuosa means “tall and stately” because in Temple Bamboo the leaves grow closely to the culm. Temple Bamboo has a straight, vertical growth habit suitable for visual screens in narrow places. The original culms are dark green, and can become bronze, orange, and burgundy tones when exposed to sunlight.
Temple Bamboo is a moderate runner and makes an excellent dense and tall screen for privacy. It is also good for erosion control. When grown from cuttings, as at Phil’s Farm & Nursery, Temple Bamboo is bushy from the ground up.
